Password Strength Requirements

April 2, 2017

When setting a new password, we require that your password meet certain length requirements and be free of common words or patterns that make your password easy to guess.  These phrases and patterns have been found to be common across many lists of compromised passwords, so attackers usually try to guess them first.

If you're creating a password and it contains one of these words, it's better to create an all new password than modify the word or pattern.  Modifying the existing password does not make it any more secure, although it may be permissible by our standards.  Using a password manager to generate a random password is recommended.
